Job Background
Through Beyond 5G cloud-network integrated infrastructures, many services with rigorous QoS requirements will arise, which will be accomplished by constructing several functional blocks (i.e., Virtualized Network Functions, or VNFs) running on separate technological and administrative domains with complex communication patterns. Immersive services are notable examples (e.g., metaverse). These services create/consume massive volumes of data, which must be processed/transmitted efficiently for service responsiveness and reliability. The Computing First Networking (CFN) is critical in these situations, where automated closed-loop cloud and network resource orchestration mechanisms are needed to 1) perform demand and resource monitoring and availability prediction, 2) place, assign, and schedule single VNFs or VNF chains across the distributed cloud domains, and 3) allocate and prioritize network resources to connect the established VNFs considering the ever-changing dynamics of both infrastructure and end-user service consumption behavior across time and space to facilitate assurance and preserve QoS guarantees while maximizing resource sharing resulting in cost and energy savings.
Job Requirements
We are looking for highly motivated students or postdoc researchers who are willing to conduct high-quality research work, developing efficient approaches and methods that leverage zero-touch orchestration concept, AI/ML techniques, SDN/programmable data plane technologies, and NFV standards and tools for enabling automated in-network multi-domain resource orchestration in beyond 5G cloud-network integrated infrastructures. We are looking for candidates with good analytical and scientific writing skills, as well as relevant experience in any of the following: 5G core, cloud computing fundamentals and technologies (OpenStack and Kubernetes), machine learning concepts and frameworks (DNN, RL, FL, GNN, PyTorch, and TensorFlow), mathematical optimization concepts and tools (IP, LP, MIP, MILP, and CPLEX), programming languages and technologies (Python, C/C++, Java, JavaScript, and Git), and SDN technologies (ONOS, ODL, and P4).
